Placencia Caye, Belize
Mangrove Reforestation
Allies of the Wild has partnered with The Crocodile Research Coalition and Grass Roots Belize in Placencia, Belize to reforest mangrove habitat that had been illegally destroyed during unregulated development.
Stewardship of Placencia Caye has been passed to the Crocodile Research Coalicion and all development has now ceased.
Allies of the Wild is funding the reforestation of the mangrove habitat on the island, repairing and regenerating the mangrove forests that had been destroyed.
A biodiversity study along with a mangrove propagule survivorship rate study will be carried out in August of 2026 to assess the ecological health of the island.

Our Role
100% of all funds raised are supporting the planting of all 3 native Belizean mangrove species (Black mangrove Avicennia germinans, white mangrove Laguncularia racemosa, red mangrove Rhizophora mangle) back into the ecosystem.

Local Connections
We are working in collaboration with Belizean Ecologist Valentine Rosado of Grass Roots Belize to ensure the ecosystem is restored correctly and to promote as much biodiversity as possible.
